finally, here is the blog post most of you were waiting for: the French Canada Trip!
And finally I find the time and motivation to write it, and I really need to, because it was a trip worth to remember.
The first evening, me and Katie travelled to Toronto to stay at her relatives home for a night. They were so friendly to take us, so we could start of really early in the morning. they apartment was really small, so was the room and bed we were sleeping in, but the view was amazing. Especially in the morning when we got up at six, the sunset was visible behind the skyline of Toronto.
We found our bus and a school group of little Mexicans, a student group from Bronx school, a few over age single travellers and our tour guide Melanie gave us companionship throughout the trips. Our first stop was Ottawa, where we saw the parliament (just from the outside) and met Christal, a dutch woman, and Pedro and Musad from Brazil and Sudan. Really exotic, how I would call our mixed group, but that´s Canada!
We decided to explore a little together and ordered lunch in a pub and eat original Beaver tale, which is basically fried dough with toppings. I prefer chocolate and banana, but some people life for the cinnamon and lemon version.
Our next stop was Montreal, and I´ve already been there and can say, that this is a really nice city. We explored the nightlife in the evening, but we were pretty tired. The next morning we visited the bio dome, a zoo where different bioms with their animals and plants are represented. Then we climbed the Mont Royal and saw the view over the city. However the view is much nicer when all the trees are blooming, it looked impressive. In the city, we explored St. Pauls street and its shops. There is this one ice cream store which I can really recommend, they sweeten them with maple sirup and are selling many kinds of products made with maple sirup, for example vinegar or pepper!
In the evening, we arrived in Quebec and ate dinner in my favourite restaurant “l`atelier” there. The food is a little more expensive, but super delicious and the lights are showing a really cozy and nice atmosphere, even outside in the cold. The next day, we explored the wooden walkway and the chateau, and we got a walking tour around the town from a lady dressed up in 19th century clothes to tell us the history of Quebec. She said, they shipped homeless women from Paris to Quebec to be husbands for the unwashed men who lived here, ew.
In the evening, we ate in a nice little restaurant and for lunch, we had original Quebecois crêpe. On our trip we also saw some nature at the Montmorency falls, where we climbed the slippery stairs in the cold to see a waterfall, ending up into a half frozen river. Very impressive, but nicer in summer indeed. The next day was very nice though, which was the very last one. We all ate breakfast in the “Sugar Shack”, which is a nice farm land restaurant for breakfast where they produce original maple sirup in their own farm. And indeed, the breakfast with maple sirup was amazing and I really loved it. At noon, we went to the 1000 island ship tour and posted for cameras on the ships windy deck, while observing the little private islands with property, and he huge damn castle on the water!
The trip was great and I would recommend it, if you want to see as much as possible in a short time. Me and Katie had a lot of fun while sharing a room with Christal, and on the trip in general. The rain was not optimal, neither the temperature or the frozen snow on the ground, but is was still worth to see those amazing cities which give me nostalgia about our holidays in France!
